Amoako Baah: NPP regional election is for the highest bidder

"The party is divided, sharply divided, this is why only money can make you win," Baah said on Asaase Radio's The Big Bulletin on Monday

The political analyst Dr Richard Amoako Baah has said that the just ended NPP’s regional elections is a clear indication that the party’s internal polls have been limited to the highest bidder.

“The party is divided, sharply divided, this is why only money can make you win,” Baah said on Asaase Radio’s The Big Bulletin on Monday.

The governing New Patriotic Party has described the exercise as successful.

The NPP said in a statement that the conference went off smoothly in all 15 regions and that it expects delegates and party leaders in the Central Region – the only region left – to hold its elections peacefully after the court hearing.

Speaking with Beatrice Adu on the Big Bulletin Amoako Baah said: “This is from a reliable source, yesterday Odeneho gave GHC7000 to the delegates …. and someone from Wontumi’s side gave some dollars and he won.”

Bawumia calls for a united front after regional elections

Meanwhile, Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called for unity within the rank and file of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the party’s successful regional elections over the weekend.

Twelve incumbent regional chairmen of the NPP retained their seats after the exercise, which was held in 15 regions. Out of the 12 who retained their positions, the Western regional chairman, Francis Ndede Siah, went unopposed.

Bawumia described the elections as impressive.

“Impressive show of intra-party democracy so far exhibited by the New Patriotic Party in the conduct of elections from the polling stations to the regional level,” the vice-president posted on Facebook on Monday (30 May).

“Congratulations to all competing parties,” Bawumia said. “We should be more poised, now than ever, to forge unity for a stronger party. Even though the contestants may have been on opposing sides, let us all remember that we are one family, the Kukrudu family. Once again, ayekoo to all party faithful for this success.”
