WAGMC donates 75 laptops for UG @75

The commendable move is in support of Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana’s One Student, One Laptop (1S1L) initiative

The West African Genetic Medicine Centre (WAGMC) has donated 75 laptops to 75 students at a fellowship awards ceremony held on Wednesday (19 July) at the centre’s forecourt.

WAGMC donated these laptops to various students from the West African Genetic Medicine Centre (WAGMC), University of Ghana Medical School; Department of Anatomy, Department of Chemical Pathology, Department of Medical Biochemistry, Department of Microbiology, Department of   Physiology, Department of Dietetics, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Department of Psychology.

Prof. Fiifi Ofori-Acquah (Director of WAGMC) stated that the aim of the donation of the laptops to students is to enhance their learning in the fast growing world of digitalisation.

In his speech, the director of the center mentioned that students were invited to write essays to state the importance of the 1S1L.

The VC initiated the 1S1L when the school noticed that most students do not have laptops, thereby impeding their participation in virtual classes and accessing eBooks for effective learning. According to him, most of the students expressed themselves to the amazement of the committee that ensured fairness in the selection of the winners.

The shortlisted students were presented with the laptops during the ceremony and advised to make the best use of this opportunity.
