Ansa-Asare: General Legal Council Act needs reform

Kwaku Ansa-Asare says that reforms in the GLC act will help bring clarity to the requirements for admission

The former director of the Ghana School of Law (GSL), Kwaku Ansa-Asare, is calling for reforms in the General Legal Council (GLC) Act to address the perennial issues associated with admissions into the Ghana School of Law.

Parliament last week by a resolution, directed the Ghana School of Law (GSL) to admit all 499 students who passed the recent entrance examination but have been denied admission.

But in a letter dated 1 November 2021 and addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice,  Godfred Yeboah Dame said the legislature has no locus to issue that directive under Article 106 of the 1992 Constitution.

The law students are already in court challenging the decision of the GLC.

Speaking on Asaase Radio‘s news analysis and current affairs show – The Forum – on Saturday 6 November, Ansa-Asare said that reforms in the GLC act will help bring clarity to the requirements for admission.
