Oware, who described himself as the campaign manager of Bawumia, said the economist is looking forward to succeed his boss Nana Akufo-Addo to break the eight.

Fred Oware, a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that the Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will contest as a presidential candidate of the governing party.

Oware, who described himself as the campaign manager of Bawumia, said the economist is looking forward to succeed his boss Nana Akufo-Addo to break the eight.

“He will offer himself to contest for the position [flagbearer],” Oware told Asaase 99.5 Accra’s Wilberforce Asare at the Accra Sports Stadium, where the party is holding its annual national delegates’ conference to elect national executives.

“He [Bawumia] will do that squarely and fairly,” Oware, who also serves as an advisor in the Office of the Vice President, said.

A former national executive of the centre-right and liberal conservative party, Oware said the party should aim at a clean exercise when it comes to the election of a flagbearer.

“We should have a clean and decent campaign,” Oware said. “The election should be done without any insult.”

National conference

There are 47 aspirants vying for 10 positions at the national level. A total of 6,730 delegates will be casting their votes at 20 polling centres at the venue.
