EOCO arrests seven Nigerian cybercrime suspects, rescues 21 trafficked individuals

The suspects were arrested after an intelligence-led swoop on a house in Manhean, Obeyeyie, in the Greater Accra Region

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested seven Nigerians involved in activities of cyber crime in Ghana, an official statement has said.

The suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led swoop on a house in Manhean, Obeyeyie in the Greater Accra Region.

A statement issued by EOCO on Monday (3 October 2022) said 21 individuals, believed to be victims of trafficking from Nigeria, were also rescued during the swoop.

The seven suspects have since been remanded into lawful custody while investigations continue.

Cybersecurity Month

The National Cyber-Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2022 took off on 1 October 2022 across the country and runs until 31 October. The month-long event is under the theme “Regulating Cybersecurity: a Public-Private Sector Collaborative Approach”.

The key objectives of NCSAM 2022 are to:

  • Enhance public-private sector understanding of cybersecurity regulations
  • Receive inputs from industry players and stakeholders on the implementation of the various regulatory measures currently being implemented by the CSA
  • Build synergies among all relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations
  • Create awareness of the Cybersecurity Act 2020 and promote the importance of cybersecurity regulations among children, the public at large, business and the government, while highlighting the need for public-private co-operation.
