Five interesting Bible verses you may not get to hear in church

The Bible passages below will get you thinking and wondering why religious leaders hardly use them in their sermons on Sundays

The Bible is a complete book, and no part of the scriptures will go without being fulfilled. God also warned teachers of the word not to remove from his word.

Although contentious, it’s an open secret that most Christians haven’t read the full Bible, but did you know that your Bible holds a lot of secrets?

That is why the Bible is there for every Christian to read, not depending only on what you hear from the church.

Here are five verses in the Bible you may not hear your pastor talking so much about in a sermon:

1. Timothy 5:23 (NIV)

Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.”

The Bible repeatedly warns against abuse of strong drink and drunkenness (Prov. 20:1; 31:4–5; Isa. 24:9; 1 Cor. 6:9–10; Eph. 5:18). However, here Paul tells Timothy to “no longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.”

Does this commend wine drinking?

Paul, however, urges Christian leaders to show moderation and be temperate in taking alcohol. (1 Tim. 3:3, 8).

2. Isaiah 66:11 (NIV)

For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance.”

The breasts carry a powerful ability to give husbands romantic satisfaction, according to the word of God. I believe if the Bible can talk about the beauty of the breasts of a woman, we can also talk and write about it.

Agree?

3. 1 Corinthians 7:15 (NIV)

But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.”

Jesus did not address all marriage/divorce scenarios while on earth, so here in this verse, Paul tells us that it is not a sin to get a divorce if a non-Christian spouse deserts a Christian spouse.

Meaning God can never put you in bondage if an unbelieving spouse walked out of your marriage. You are no longer under bondage.

4. Matthew 10:34 (NIV)

Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law– a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.”

In this verse the Lord warns His followers not to expect peace on this planet rather division.

5. 1 Corinthians 7:9 (NIV)

But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.”

This verse is unambiguous. God said here that instead of committing fornication, go ahead and marry. Don’t wait for elaborate wedding, it is better to marry than “killing yourself”.
