Hawking sachet water to fund university education, the story of Ernest Antwi

With the brand name, Bɛɛma Nsuooh, Ernest Antwi works hard to fund his education by hawking sachet water on the streets of Accra

Ernest Antwi, the tertiary student hawking pure water to finance his education at the Accra Technical University has said he now sells between 18 to 20 bags of sachet water after wearing suit to sell the water.

With the brand name, Bɛɛma Nsuooh (a twi phrase, meaning man’s water), Ernest Antwi works hard to fund his education by hawking sachet water on the streets of Accra.

Despite the hot weather and intense traffic in Accra, he does this, clad in full suit, holding an executive bag and a serving tray.

Antwi who is currently pursuing Higher National Diploma in Building Technology (B-Tech). at the Accra Technical University and is hoping to become a contractor just like his grandfather.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (29 February), Antwi said he now sells between 18 to 20 bags of sachet after deciding to wear suit whenever he is hawking.

“A friend of mine advised to find something to do, so she advised me to sell sachets of water. later moved to sell pie and bread on the street, all in a quest to do something for my life.

“I later realized I had to go to school to come and make my family, so I enrolled in tertiary at Accra Technical University after saving from selling sachets of water, pie, and bread on the street.”

“Back on campus at the Accra Technical University, I met a woman who has been supplying me with water to sell and later went back to give her money. I used to wear suits and ties to sell water on the street. I did so because I wanted to look different from all the hawkers on the street,” Antwi said.
