Black Stars summit: Hughton meets Addo and Boateng in London

...after ironing out kinks with GFA over advisory ''role''

Former Newcastle United and Brighton manager Chris Hughton has held successful talks with interim Black Stars coaches Otto Addo and George Boateng.

The meeting took place in London on Thursday evening after Otto Addo flew in from his base in Germany to join Hughton and George Boateng in London. Asaase Sports understands the meeting was held ostensibly to iron out the kinks regarding Chris Hughton’s role as ”technical advisor” for the World Cup Qualifying Play-off tie versus Nigeria.

Sources close to the meeting have told Asaase Sports that both Otto Addo and George Boateng respect Hughton’s pedigree and expressed their willingness to work with him. The respect between them is mutual with Otto said to have left a good impression on Hughton.

Asaase Sports understands Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, another assistant in the interim arrangement, was aware and brief of the meeting even though he could not join. All four coaches are on the same wavelength in terms of what each would contribute and what the team needs to scale the Nigerian hurdle in March.

This meeting took place only after the leadership of the Ghana Football Association had addressed Chris Hughton’s misgivings over Wednesday’s announcement.

GFA statement.

On Wednesday, the Ghana Football Association announced a new structure for the Black Stars technical team. The statement indicated that the GFA had appointed Chris Hughton as its ā€technical advisor to the newly constituted Black Stars technical teamā€. The technical team would be headed by Borussia Dortmund scout Otto Addo, with Didi Dramani and George Boateng serving as assistants.

However, sources close to Chris Hughton told Asaase Sports there was no firm agreement in place at the time. However, subsequent discussions settled all differences, paving the way for Thursday’s meeting.Ā
