Kafaba: Youth urged to treat elderly people with care

The youth of Kafaba have been urged to treat the aged with love and care because they will also get to that stage in life

Khadi4TheAged Foundation, a United States of America-based non-profit making organisation has embarked on a community sensitisation of youth on the need to handle and treat the aged in society with maximum respect as they will also grow to be aged.

The organisation’s main aim is to support and take care of the aged in vulnerable communities.

The programmes director of the foundation Mohammed Zakariah Awusi addressing chiefs and people of Kayfabe on behalf of the Khadi4TheAged Foundation, indicated the purpose of the sensitisation is also to address issues and associated challenges the aged are faced with.

He urged members of the community, especially the youth to treat the aged with love and care.

“We are here in Kafaba to let our people know that we have them at heart, so if there is this very important issue which is about the aged and for which Kafaba name has also come up, we decided to come here and let everybody be part of this occasion,” he added.

The sensitisation tour which was focused on how the youth should recognise the aged and accept them as part of growth and to also take to consideration their vulnerabilities rather than accusing them of witchcraft.

Hundreds of community members led by the chief of Kafaba community, Kafabawura Seidu Yahaya, attended the event.

Awusi who led the team to the community on behalf of the executive director of the organisation, Miss Sofo Khadijah thanked the chiefs and people of the area for the warm reception given to the team.

The chief of Kafaba, Kafabawura Yahaya Seidu who thanked the team for coming to sensitise his community members on issues of the aged, said the unfortunate incident that led to the death of a 90-year-old Akua Denteh in the community, happened at his blind side.

He gave the assurance that nothing of that sort will ever happen again in the area.

The chief also noted that their visit to the area will go a long way to make it known to the world that Kafaba is a peace-loving community.

Meanwhile, Khadi4TheAged Foundation has also assured chiefs and people of the area to be a partner in taking care and protecting the aged in the vulnerable communities including Kafaba.

As part of its interventions and awareness creation, the organisation is also poised to supporting other civil society organizations to educate the youth about the ailments the aged often suffer from in order to avoid the abuse of people who suffer as a result of dementia.
