Kasoa murder suspect: “We’ve killed a pregnant woman” before

The judge Rosemond Agyiri Duodoo commits the two youths in the Kasoa case to stand trial at the high court after they are charged with conspiracy and the murder of Ishmael Mensah

The first accused in the Kasoa ritual murder case has alleged that, apart from the specific charge of murdering the 11-year-old Ishmael Mensah Abdallah, they also previously killed a pregnant woman.

“We have killed a pregnant woman before, aside from Ishmael,” the 16-year-old suspect told the Kaneshie District Court on Monday (16 August).

However, his accomplice, Nicholas Kwame Kani, denied being party to any murder.

The judge in the trial, Rosemond Agyiri Duodoo, has committed the two to stand trial after they had been charged with conspiracy and murder of Ishmael Mensah Abdallah.

Haunted

The two youngsters are said to have murdered Abdallah on 3 April this year for ritual purposes. Prosecutors say they lured him into an uncompleted building in Lamptey Mills, near Kasoa, and killed him with a club and a cement block.

The younger juvenile, who was in tears throughout the committal proceedings, also told the court that the ghost of the dead boy had been haunting him to tell the truth, reports the state-owned Daily Graphic.

During the committal proceedings the prosecution, led by a senior state attorney, Nana Adoma Osei, submitted exhibits from the crime scene. These included a shovel, a spade and pieces of cement block allegedly used to commit the murder.

On hearing the last words of the first accused, the presiding judge announced: “Based on the testimony you have given before this court, I deem it necessary to commit you to stand trial at the high court.”

Trial will commence at the high court on 20 September.
