KNUST to Akosua Manu: We’re not concealing rape cases

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has denied allegations that it is concealing a rape case

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is not concealing a rape case, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, the public relations officer of KNUST has said.

The deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA) Akosua Manu in a Facebook post alleged that KNUST has recorded three rape cases within a spate of two weeks contrary to the two being reported by the university.

“The third incident of rape at KNUST upsets me no end. And I say three because as I understand it, one incident is being managed. Three cases in two weeks is a pandemic. We are not angry enough,” she posted.

Reacting to the post on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (11 August), Bekoe said the university is not involved in any cover up.

“It will interest you that these two incidents that occurred, the victims didn’t report it,” he said. ” We got wind of it and investigated and then reported the matter to the police. We even helped the police to arrest the perpetrators.”

“If anything happens our people will pick it up. I don’t know if Akosua Manu has a special investigation machinery on the ground better than we do as a university.

“And so I can tell you on authority, my checks from the directorate from all campus, from the counsellors, the security service and police service show that there is no third case,” he said.
