KobbySalm to release official video for “Joy Remix” featuring Dave DA MusicBox

The central theme for the song and video is joy so, in the video you can see some party scenes and people making merry

Award-winning urban gospel artiste, KobbySalm is set to release the official visuals for the remix of his song, “Joy” on Friday, 17 December. The song features two talented Ghanaian contemporary gospel singers and songwriters MOG Music and Dave Da MusicBox.

In an interview with Asaase News, KobbySalm said Dave Da MusicBox mostly wrote the remix for “Joy” at a time when he was going through challenges.

“The song was actually written by Dave Da MusicBox. I did some co-writing as well. I remember reaching out to Dave about us collaborating and mentioning to him that I wanted some Francophone kind of vibe in the song. Dave at the time was going through a really difficult time in his life and quintessentially there wasn’t any way he was going to think of a song titled “Joy” or even to compose a song that spoke about joy.

“But as he prayed, the Holy Spirit ministered to his heart to proclaim joy over his life. At the point, he needed something that could overshadow the hard times he was going through, then booom there it was. Joy came to life from that instance,” KobbySalm said.

The urban gospel singer also said the concept for the music video which was directed by The Boldz was “to depict a joyous celebration.”

“You know happiness is somewhat synonymous to joy and because the music itself speaks of joy we decided to go with something that could best sync with the message in the song. So, in the video you can see some party scenes and people making merry,” he said.

Impacting souls

The urban gospel is a genre of music that inculcates rap and afro beat-styled tunes with gospel lyrics.

Asked where he saw the genre headed, KobbySalm said, “I actually see the urban gospel as a genre that has the potential of creating a lot of influence on the youth and on how people see Christianity. I think the urban gospel is a way of life that has come to debunk a lot of ways we think Christianity should look like. It is not only the music but a lifestyle that has come to alleviate certain perceptions people have of Gospel music in our modern age.”

He added that in some years to come he sees “the genre impacting souls, people doing urban gospel getting acknowledged and the whole genre going widespread in Ghana and overseas.”

KobbySalm released his debut album, “In the Midst of Comfort (ITMOC), in August last year. He has five awards to his credit: four from Ghana Urban Gospel Awards and one from National Gospel Awards. He was also nominated in the Best Gospel Song category at this year’s Ghana Music Awards.

The “Joy Remix” is on his latest EP, “This Is Us” which has six songs and features 28 Urban Gospel Artistes. “This is Us” is currently out on all digital stores.
