Kwahu paragliding festival kicks off

Seven pilots, including a Ghanaian, would be flying about 200 registered revellers in the paragliding event

The opening ceremony of this year’s Kwahu paragliding event has taken place at the Odweanoma mountains at Atibie in the Eastern Region.

The programme that kicks off the Kwahu Easter festivities has, over the years, seen improvements with the expansion and rehabilitation of the paragliding site.

Seven pilots, including a Ghanaian, would be flying about 200 registered revellers in the Paragliding.

They are from Germany, Peru, the United States of America and Japan.

The minister-designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, said the festival has generated a lot of revenue for the local tourism industry.

The chief executive officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman, said the number of people flying has increased from 60 to 248 due to the resilience of the pilots.

He thanked the various district assemblies for their support over the years.

The paragliding festival will not only boost the local economy but also enrich cultural and mutual understanding between guests and the community.
