Medeama agrees to Goldfields sponsorship extension

Gold mining firm set to sign extension for further year

Goldfields Ghana Limited has agreed in principle to extend its sponsorship deal with Ghana Premier League side, Medeama Sporting Club.

Asaase Sports understands the new deal is similar to the previous agreement; both in terms of structure and contents. It is reportedly worth a whopping $300,000 for a period of one year.

The new deal, when signed, will help cover the cost of the club’s contractual obligations to players and managers technical team members. It will also help cover their operational cost, as well as medical, accommodation, feeding, and logistics for the team.

A year ago, Goldfields signed a deal with Medeama with the same economic benefit. That deal, worth $300,000, was a significant injection to the club’s finances as it allowed them to keep their key players Richard Boadu and Justice Blay who were both the subject of interest from Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko respectively.

Asaase Sports understands that GoldFields will also continue their investment into the re-construction of the Tarkwa T&A Park; Medeama’s original home venue.

Medeama S.C finished fifth last season in the Ghana Premier League with seven points behind champions Hearts of Oak. The Mauves and Yellows were semi-finalists in last season’s MTN FA Cup.
