Military base to be set up at Afram Plains

The Eastern regional minister Seth Kwame Acheampong said the base will be set up on a 50-acre land at Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains South District to improve on security

A military base will soon be established in the Afram Plains in the Eastern Region as part of efforts to improve on general security in the area, government officials have said.

Speaking to the media, the Eastern regional minister Seth Kwame Acheampong said the base will be set up on a 50-acre land at Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains South District to also bring the activities of Fulani herdsmen under control.

“We have donated over 50 acres of land to be used in building a permanent base for the military. We are having Kwanin also offer us temporary accommodation for them to commence their operations here, and that’s what we came to inspect.

“So, the forward operation will certainly happen. This is how we are commencing it, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a step and so we being here is to ensure the building up of the foundation with stones first, to help us achieve the objective of having a forward base here,” Acheampong said.

The command led by the General Officer Commanding the Southern Sector Brigadier General Michael Amoah and Director Planning and Research Development Brigadier General Gyane Adoh Richard were part of the officers who inspected the land for the establishment of the base.

He is hopeful that the occasional conflicts between Fulani herdsmen and crop farmers will be a thing of the past with the presence of the military.
