Universities face closure as senior staff declare strike

At a media briefing today at KNUST, the senior staff association of public universities called on all staff to lay down their tools over non-basic allowance

The leadership of the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana has declared an indefinite nationwide strike, effective Tuesday 18 May 2021.

The association said the decision follows the government’s failure to address concerns of members after calling off similar action early this year.

It comes on the back of the government’s inability to pay the tier-2 pension arrears, market premiums, and non-basic allowances of members.

The Chairman of the Association, Mohammed Zakaria, said the government has consistently failed to address their concerns despite earlier promises.

The government is yet to respond to their latest action.
