NPP primaries: Five file to contest three Savannah Region constituencies

Three of the seven constituencies in the Savannah Region, including Damongo, Daboya-Mankarigu and Salaga North constituencies, are taking part in these primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) had five members file to contest the primaries at the close of nominations for the Savannah Region.

In the Damongo constituency, incumbent MP Samuel Abu Jinapor was the only one who filed to contest the seat, giving him the chance to go unopposed.

In the Daboya-Mankarigu constituency, incumbent MP Alhaji Asei Mahama Seini who is also the deputy minister of health, filed to contest again, while the two-time parliamentary candidate for the NPP, who is currently serving as the deputy chief executive of the Minerals Commission, Samuel Tika, filed to re-contest.

In the third constituency – Salaga North – Tahiru Fuseini filed to contest the incumbent MP, Alhassan Abdallah Iddi.

The Savannah regional director of elections and research for the party, Ayatolai Seidu, speaking to Asaase News, said looking at the people who are representing the party, the NPP will win more seats in the Savannah Region.

“Looking at the kind of work that the NPP has done in the Savannah Region and the work that the president, the vice president and all his appointees have done, there’s no doubt that the person that will be selected in the region will definitely maintain the seat for the NPP,” he said.

“And where we have already selected our candidates for the orphan constituencies, we are sure those men are capable of winning the seats from the NDC,” Seidu added.

“We (NPP) are targeting the majority of the seats; all the seats in the Savannah Region are winnable.”

Seidu called for patience as the date for vetting will soon be announced. The parliamentary primaries of the party are set to take place on 27 January 2024.
