Oti Region: Three injured in COCOBOD taskforce, farmers clash

The victims were shot when the taskforce and the farmers disagreed over the sale of cocoa beans in the Oti Region

Three people have been injured following a clash between a taskforce of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and some farmers at Ahamanso junction in the Oti Region.

One of the three people shot has been transferred to the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta region.

The victims were shot when the taskforce and the farmers disagreed over the sale of cocoa beans in the area.

David Amankwa Kodua, the principal medical officer at St Mary Theresa Hospital in Papase, where the victims were treated, said the victims were rushed to the emergency room.

“As of now, they are stable. One of them, who is around 36 years old, received a gunshot wound to the right lower limb,” he said.

He said the 36-year-old had a fracture of the tibia and hence needed an orthopaedic surgeon.

“The other two—one of them was even discharged. He was very stable. And the one who is also in the ward, which we can manage here, has some lacerations that we sutured. For him, the X-ray did not show the bullet inside,” Dr Kodua said.

Meanwhile, the residents are appealing to the authorities to investigate and prosecute the culprits.
