The police have filed an application in court to stop a planned demonstration within the vicinity of the Jubilee House – the seat of government – from Thursday 21 to 23 September 2023.
The group, Democracy Hub, which is organising the demonstration has accused the government of mismanaging the economy and demanded better relief packages for the suffering Ghanaians.
The demonstration coincides with the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, which is to be observed throughout the country on Thursday as a public holiday.
The police said they have served the organisers with the court details and waiting for the judge to “determine the matter.”
“We wish to urge the public to take note and disregard any calls from any individuals or groups encouraging them to assemble for a demonstration at the Jubilee House,” the police statement issued on Wednesday (20 September) said.
“We equally wish to urge the organisers to respect the due process in the interest of public order and public safety,” it added.
