Police: Man taped abusing child not arrested

This is in reference to some media reports suggesting the suspect has been arrested by the police in the Oti Region

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has said no arrest has been made in connection with the suspect, who subjected a child to severe beatings at a yet-to-be identified community.

This is in reference to some media reports suggesting the suspect has been arrested by the police in the Oti Region.

In a statement on Thursday (6 October), the police said they are following a number of leads as part of the ongoing investigation to track down the suspect.

“The Police are following a number of leads as part of the ongoing investigation to track down the individual involved in the child abuse video which has gone viral on social media,” the statement said.

“No confirmed arrest has yet been made in connection with the case. Our intelligence teams and experts from the Police Cyber Crime Unit are working around the clock to resolve the case.

“We are also counting on the public for further information that could help the search and rescue of the child and the arrest of the perpetrator. We therefore urge anyone with credible information on the development should contact the Police on,” the police statement said.
