Public sector workers to enjoy 23% base pay rise from January

This comes after Organized Labour demanded a 60% increment in base pay on the single spine salary structure due to harsh economic conditions.

The government has signed an agreement with Labour Unions for the 23% increment of the base pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure.

This comes after Organized Labour demanded a 60% increment in base pay on the single spine salary structure due to harsh economic conditions.

The increment is expected to take effect from January 2024 to June 2024. It will be subsequently adjusted to 25% from December 2024.

The agreement was signed between the government represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), and Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Organized Labour comprising workers’ Unions Associations, and Institutions within the Public Services of Ghana.

In 2023, Workers had a 30% adjustment in base pay. However, the showdown of inflation has cast a pall over this adjustment leaving many workers’ still struggling to make ends meet with the rising cost of living.
