SC ruling on ministerial vetting: We won’t seek for review, says Dafeamakpor’s lawyer

In a unanimous decision on Wednesday (27 March), a five-member panel of the court held that Dafeamakpor's application was frivolous and an abuse of the court process

The lawyer for South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson-Dafeamakpor, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, has said they do not intend to appeal for a review of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Parliament’s decision to put on hold, the vetting of President Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominee.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday struck out an application for an interlocutory injunction seeking to prevent Parliament from proceeding with the vetting of new ministers nominated by President Akufo-Addo.

In a unanimous decision, the apex court held that the application was frivolous and an abuse of the court process.

The applicant, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi, had sought to halt the vetting process in Parliament pending the determination of his suit challenging the constitutionality of the president’s decision to reassign ministers without Parliament’s involvement.

However, the Supreme Court ruled that the MP’s case had no direct relevance to the nominees currently before Parliament, as it primarily concerns re-assigned ministers.

Reacting to the development on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (28 March), Samoa Addo said “We disagree with the ruling but we respect the ruling.”

He added, “We don’t have any intention of seeking a review. We want the substantive matter to be heard.”
