London: Ursula joins other ministers to discuss cellular solutions

The event, which is organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is scheduled for 21 – 22 February 2023

The Communications and Digitalisation Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, is expected to attend this year’s Ministerial Alliance for Digital Nations in London, United Kingdom.

The event, which is organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is scheduled for 21 – 22 February 2023.

Owusu-Ekuful will participate in a ministerial caucus with other ministers from Central and West Africa to discuss cellular solutions for nationwide connectivity.

The ministers are: Minette Libom Li Likeng (Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Cameroon), Felix Mbayu (Ministry of External Relations, Cameroon), Jean Pierre Doukaga Kassa (Ministry of Communication and the Digital Economy, Gabon), Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami (Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Nigeria) and Mohamed Swaray (Ministry of Information and Communications, Sierra Leone).

The ministers will present their challenges in realising universal broadband access and last-mile connectivity in their jurisdictions. Cellular industry leaders will share their information and communications technology (ICT) solutions to address concerns raised.

The CTO recognises that the process of digital transformation is a collective responsibility that cannot be achieved by governments alone. The private sector plays an integral role in the process and collaboration and innovation are imperative for success.

The CTO conceived the Ministerial Alliance for Digital Nations 2023 to facilitate collaboration between its member governments and the ICT industry to address ICT issues for transformation within the Commonwealth. This inaugural alliance will consider affordable universal broadband access as essential for digital transformation.

The alliance will also present emerging technologies and their implications for policy, legislation and regulations. At this inaugural event, spectrum management issues relating to the technologies will be discussed.

An important activity of the alliance is a unique and innovative networking session that will introduce Commonwealth ministers to ICT industry leaders to foster collaborative action.
