Tamale: Gunmen attack Dakpema palace

The police say two persons suffered gunshot injuries during the attack at the Dakpema palace

A group of unknown gunmen has attacked the Dakpema palace in Tamale in the early hours of Monday (7 March), traditional authorities have confirmed to Asaase News.

Palace sources say two persons suffered gunshot injuries during the attack.

The police are yet to establish the cause of the attack, however, Asaase News say it may be linked to the recent directive by the Overlord of Dagbon Yaa Naa Abubakar Mahama II that Dakpema Fuseini Bawa must stop playing talking drums in his palace.

Some tradition rulers, specifically Sagnarigu, Lamashegu and Nanton chiefs had earlier petitioned the Tamale Metropolitan Security Council as well as the Northern Regional Security Council to cease the talking drums, arguing that, the Dakpema has no powers to do so.

Meanwhile, the police are on a manhunt for some 15 unidentified gunmen who allegedly attacked the Dakpema palace, according to the northern regional crime officer Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga.
