“This is barbaric”, police condemn killing of 27-year-old lady in Adum

Blagodzi told the court that the police hierarchy is still unsettled by the action of the suspect stressing that such dastardly acts soil the image of the service

The Ghana Police Service has condemned the killing of a 27-year-old lady in Adum-Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.

The head of legal and prosecution at the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Kofi Blagodzi, made this statement when the accused person, Ahmed Twumasi, made his first appearance at a district court in Asokore Mampong on Tuesday (25 April).

Blagodzi told the court that the police hierarchy is still unsettled by the action of the suspect stressing that such dastardly acts soil the image of the service.

“My lord, this is barbaric”, Blagodzi told the judge, Samuel Buabin Quansah.

He said, “such a heinous crime coming from an inspector in active service thwarts the transformational agenda of the Ghana Police Service. And this is coming from no other person than a police inspector who should know better.

“As I have already indicated [to this court] the police take a serious interest in this matter and I would like to assure the family that justice would be served.”

Twumasi has provisionally been charged with murder. He is said to have shot his 27-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, on Thursday 20 April at about 9pm.

The deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the abdomen and chest, court documents show. Her body has been deposited at the morgue.

The suspect, who has been remanded, will reappear before the court on Tuesday 30 May.

Dapaah’s family flocked to the court to observe the proceedings. They had threatened to accost the suspect who was later whisked away by heavy security personnel deployed to the day’s sitting.
