Ultra-conservative church leader stabbed during livestream service in Australia

Bishop Mari Mari Emmanuel was stabbed along with several worshippers at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Sydney, Australia.

Bishop Mari Mari Emmanuel was stabbed along with several worshippers at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Sydney, Australia, on Monday (15 April) night.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 7pm, and one man was arrested. No one suffered life-threatening injuries.

Emmanuel is a prominent leader of an ultra-conservative sect of the Assyrian Orthodox who preaches fire and brimstone and anti-LGBTQ sermons.

He claims Satan founded the United Nations and claims the US election was rigged.

Christ The Good Shepherd Church’s website reads: “Emmanuel travelled internationally for his bible teachings, including to Arizona in the US in December.”

Massive crowds formed as police deployed shields to protect themselves from rioters. There was a large standoff between police and protesters, who threw objects across the intersection.

The Assyrian Orthodox Church was one of the earliest to separate from the Catholic Church regarding communion. Its central worship feature is its Holy Offering or Eucharist service, called “Qurbana Qaddisha.”

Popular Australian politician Chris Minns said he was disturbed by the scenes and urged the public to remain calm and obey authorities.

The attack occurred two days after the Westfield Bondi Junction mass stabbings, and the bishop was stabbed while praying for Jesus to save him.
