The ATOMEXPO International Forum, one of the largest events in the atomic field, has been launched in Sochi, Russia.
Emmanuel Aboagye-Wiafe reports that the two-day conference is expected to be attended by more than 4100 participants from 74 countries.
As the main event of the global nuclear industry, it is the largest exhibition and business platform for discussing the current state of the nuclear industry and setting future trends.
ATOMEXPO has been held annually since 2009.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday (21 November), the deputy director and head of the Department of Nuclear Energy at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mikhail Chudakov called for additional investments in the establishment of nuclear energy units globally, if the world is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Opening the 12th Atom Expo international forum ongoing in Sochi, Russia, the deputy director and head of the Department of Nuclear Energy at the IAEA, Mikhail Chudakov said for now, an unprecedented number of about seventy countries have expressed interest in pursuing nuclear power development as part of their energy mix.
Chudakov projected a significant jump in nuclear power installed capacity by 2050.
He said this trend will require the construction of twenty nuclear plants every year, adding “I’m pretty sure we will be able to meet this amount of nuclear power”.
