2022 Grammy Awards: I dedicate my nomination to Ghanaian musicians, says Rocky Dawuni

Dawuni was nominated for the Best Global Music Album award at the 64th Grammy Awards with his Voice of BunBon, Vol. 1 album

Rocky Dawuni, reggae superstar has called for support for Ghanaian music to make inroads globally following his second Grammy nominations.

Dawuni was nominated for the Best Global Music Album award at the 64th Grammy Awards with his Voice of BunBon, Vol. 1 album.

Speaking to Kojo Mensah on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday( 24 November ) after his nomination , Dawuni dedicated the nomination to Ghanaian musicians.

‘I think it is really a great day to celebrate just being Ghanaians and this opportunity that has come for our industry for us all  to genuinely start supporting music that comes from us .. anything that is Ghanaian and is wholesome and good, we have to support it.”

So this is a nomination that I am dedicating  to all Ghanaian who are working diligently on their works , that the doors are opened, you just have to keep being creative , and we will hit every platform or every highest peak in the world with our music,” he said.

“It is a good day to celebrate Ghanaian  music and it is a good day for Ghana music and its impact around the world.”

The 2022 Grammy Awards will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Monday, 31 January, 2022.

Nomination

Rocky Dawuni was nominated alongside Wizkid from Nigerian who got into the category with his ‘Made In Lagos’ album.

Others in the Global Album Music category are Daniel Ho & Friends, Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti and Made Kuti. The recording academy announced the nominees of the 64th Grammys via its official Twitter account.

The Ghanaian singer was nominated for the Grammys in 2015 for his sixth studio album titled ‘Branches of The Same Tree’ in the category of Best Reggae Album.

The nomination made the ‘Black Star’ singer the first Ghanaian to be nominated for Grammys.
