75-year-old woman murdered in Nalerigu

The police say investigations are currently ongoing to find the perpetrators of the crime

A 75-year-old woman, Tiyata Achiri, was found dead on the street of Nalerigu in the North East Region on Saturday (4 December 2021).

Sources say she was lynched by the youth of the town for allegedly being a witch.

However, the police in Nalerigu are yet to confirm the actual cause of death.

The regional police command told Asaase News that doctors at the Nalerigu Baptist Medical Centre (BMC) said Achiri was pummeled with hard objects leading to her death.

Speaking to Asaase News, the North East Regional Police PRO, ASP Robert Anabiik Angmain said, “I can confirm the death of one madam Achiri, but the issue of her being lynched cannot be confirmed because we have no evidence, we are treating it as a murder case for which we are investigating to find out the culprit(s), we heard information about her death around 7 pm.”
