Defamation case: Court’s ruling is victory for Anas’s victims, says Ken Agyapong’s lawyer

Raphael Agyapong, the lawyer for the MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, said his client’s latest victory against investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in a defamation case exonerates all those who have fallen victims to the latter’s modus operandi.
An Accra high court on Wednesday dismissed a GHC25 million defamatory suit by the investigative journalist against the MP for Assin Central in the Central Region. Anas took the MP to court in 2018 for allegedly defaming him.
In his application, Anas prayed to the court to award aggravated damages of GHC25 million to compensate for allegedly defamatory material published against him by Agyapong.
In a lengthy ruling delivered on Wednesday (15 March 2023), Justice Eric Baah held that the plaintiff, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, had failed to prove that Kennedy Agyapong defamed him by airing the documentary Who Watches the Watchman?
Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (16 March), Agyapong, the defendant’s lawyer said: “The ruling is victory for the victims of Anas Aremeyaw Anas.”
“What the judge basically said was that Kennedy Agyapong should be commended instead of being destroyed by this Anas guy. I must say that we are very satisfied with the results of the court proceedings and the subsequent ruling,” he added.
