ASEPA: Appointing EC’s Sylvia Annor as ambassador wrong

Mensah Thompson, executive director of pro-NDC CSO ASEPA has kicked against the reported appointment of former EC spokesperson Sylvia Annor as ambassador

The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has described the president’s reported appointment of the immediate past spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annor, as ambassador to Denmark as politically unwise.

Speaking on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday, executive director of ASEPA Mensah Thompson said the president may have good intention but the timing is wrong.

“That is why I said the president has the right to appoint whoever he wants, but the decision. Now the image of the Electoral Commission has been cast in doubt, especially when their PRO has become an ambassador,” he said.

Thompson added: “And especially after the election, you spite your opponent by appointing the public relations officer of the Electoral Commission as an ambassador.”

Appointment

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo this week appointed new heads of mission including Annor.

Before her appointment, she served as the spokesperson for Ghana’s Electoral Commission from 1993 to 2015 and later became head of public affairs of the same institution.

She holds a Master of Governance and Leadership degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in addition to a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the same institution.
