Female Colts League: Looking at what we already have on the ground, it needs a second look, says JUCOAG President

GFA president Kurt Okraku recently announced a U-15 women's tournament scheduled for May–July 2024, aiming to create a clear pathway for young female footballers

The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) plans to establish a female colts league have sparked debate, with the Juvenile Club Owners Association of Ghana (JUCOAG) president, Selasie Glover, expressing concerns about the GFA’s financial readiness.

GFA president Kurt Okraku recently announced a U-15 women’s tournament scheduled for May–July 2024, aiming to create a clear pathway for young female footballers.

“As we speak, if a young girl wakes up in the morning and wants to play football, there is no colts football for girls,” Okraku stated. “So in the next few days, a clear pathway for our girls will also be made public.”

“Indeed, in the months of May, June and July, we will be staging the U-15 tournament to offer other opportunities for our younger girls to also realise their dreams of playing football.”

While Glover agrees with the need for a female colts league, he raises financial concerns. “It will be a good thing for Ghana,” Glover said in an exclusive interview with asaaseradio.com

“Looking at what we already have on the ground, it needs a second look at to make things better.”

“So the question is, if you are saying you don’t have the funds to take care of whatever is already there and you are coming to add another one to it, then it means that there is going to be a little bit of a challenge,” Glover said.
