Ghana Athletics announces 36-member team for 13th African Games

Star-studded team looks to not only bring glory to the nation but also qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France

Ghana Athletics has unveiled a formidable squad, comprising 36 athletes, including 21 males and 15 females, gearing up for the highly anticipated 13th African Games, commencing from 8–23 March, 2024, in Accra, Ghana.

Led by a distinguished panel of coaches, the team has undergone rigorous training since January, initially stationed in Cape Coast before shifting to Legon for intensive preparations.

Ghana’s representation in the sprint events boasts star athletes like Benjamin Azamati, the country’s 100m record holder, who will spearhead the nation’s challenge in the 100m category.

Azamati will team up with Joseph Paul Amoah for the Men’s 4x100m relay, both pivotal members of Ghana’s triumphant Men’s 4x100m team at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco.

The sprint lineup also features James Dadzie, the current national 200m record holder, along with seasoned talents such as Solomon Hammond, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Sarfo Ansah, among others.

In the mid to long-distance events, Ghana’s hopes rest on the shoulders of Raymond French, Solomon Diafo, Joshua Bour, Frank Addo, and Alex Amankwah. Dompey Barnabas is set to represent the nation in the 400m Hurdles.

However, the female contingent, while showcasing notable talents like Hor Harlutie, Grace Obour, and Janet Mensah, faces setbacks with the absence of key athletes such as 2019 gold medalist Rose Yeboah and Deborah Acquah, whose absence notably leaves Ghana without representation in the Women’s Long Jump event.
