GIBA, others to National Security: Stop invading media houses

The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and two others have described the recent invasion of Citi FM by operatives of national security as unfortunate

Three associations have called on national security to stop invading media houses in the country.

They are the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) and the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA).

The call is coming on the back of recent invasion of Accra-based Citi FM on Tuesday by national security operatives. They have also been accused of assaulting a reporter of the station, Caleb Kudah.

A statement issued by the three associations is demanding an unqualified apology from national security for the recent invasion.

“The continuous invasion of media houses by national security operatives must stop. We condemn the seizure and deletion of journalistic and any other material on any recording device without court orders,” the statement said.

“We demand an immediate and unqualified apology from the National Security Secretariat to the management and staff of Citi FM/TV and to the entire media for the havoc, panic and trauma caused them,” it added.

The three associations have further called for the establishment of an independent inquiry into the alleged assault on the journalist.

“We recommend an independent inquiry to establish and recommend punishment for anybody found culpable in this incident.”
