Justice Torkornoo warns against absence of plaintiffs after filing cases

This, according to her, does not show respect to the court, and indicates the plaintiff’s lack of interest in the case

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has lamented the absence of persons who file their cases at the Supreme Court and never show up.

This, according to her, does not show respect to the court, and indicates the plaintiff’s lack of interest in the case.

Her comment comes after Mahama Ayariga’s absence from court today over his suit against the Attorney General and Ghana Amalgamated Trust.

It will be recalled that in November 2023, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Constituency, Mahama Ayariga, sued the Attorney-General, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Finance, praying the Court to declare, among others, the establishment of the Ghana Financial Stability Fund (GFSF) as illegal and unconstitutional.

According to the Bawku Central MP, the establishment of the Fund violates Articles 175, 176, 178 and 179 of the 1992 Constitution.

In his writ as sighted on Tuesday, 14 November 2023, Mahama Ayariga noted that any support offered by the World Bank or the IMF will be a violation of Ghana’s constitution.
