Kennedy Agyapong team: We will campaign against NPP MPs who vote for other aspirants

Kennedy’s campaign manager, Kwame Owusu, said if Ken’s colleague MPs can afford to vote against him, then he will campaign against them

The campaign manager for Kennedy Agyapong, one of four candidates contesting the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries due on 4 November, has declared that all Members of Parliament who vote against Kennedy in the polls will have themselves to blame, because his candidate will, in return campaign against their candidature in their constituencies.

In an interview on Citi News, Kwame Owusu, the campaign manager for the Kennedy team, said that if Agyapong’s colleague MPs can afford to vote against him, it should not make any difference to them if he campaigns against their candidature in their various constituencies during the parliamentary primaries.

“Honourable K T Hammond is the best friend of Kennedy Agyapong [and the] Minister of Trade: he [K T Hammond] has not been able to endorse him. [Alexander] Afenyo-Markin [the deputy Majority Leader] is the best friend of Kennedy Agyapong: he [Afenyo-Markin] has not been able to endorse him,” Kwame Owusu said.

“It is because they are psychologically intimidated, and we know because of that and to protect their jobs, they are going to go to the other side.

“When we get the chance to win, most of these MPs will be cleaned up. We will campaign against them,” Owusu said.

Kennedy Agyapong is running against the sitting vice-president, Mahamudu Bawumia, and two other candidates – Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh – in the primary for the flagbearership of the NPP which will take place on Saturday 4 November 2023.

The contest will choose the presidential candidate for the NPP in the December 2024 general election.

Several independent polls have projected Vice-President Bawumia as the winner of the NPP flagbearership, predicting he will secure up to 78% of the valid votes expected to be cast in the race by the 200,000-plus delegates taking part in the constituency-based polls.
