Luigi Maclean: Look for what makes you different and stay prepared

The fast-rising gospel singer says he believes in staying prepared while awaiting opportunities

Ghanaian gospel singer Luigi Maclean has advised singers seeking breakthroughs in the music industry to be themselves and stay prepared while awaiting opportunities.

In an interview with Naa Ashorkor on Asaase Radio’s Between Hours, Maclean said that upcoming singers should not copy others but focus on what is unique to them, in order to stand out.

“I believe everybody has that one thing that makes you different from others… don’t copy. If you’re you… it’s relatively easier for you to stand out. So look for that one thing that makes you unique,” he noted.

Stay prepared

The gospel singer, who burst onto the Ghanaian music scene in 2017, after singing the hook on Joe Mettle’s hit song, “Bo Noo Ni”, also revealed that Mettle asked him to be part of the song during a rehearsal some two weeks to the actual recording day.

Sharing his experience leading up to the live recording of “Bo Noo Ni”, Maclean explained that he thought of the big names Mettle was featuring on the album and told himself, “I am not going to be the one to mess this album up.”

“There were moments,” he said, “where I stood behind my mirror, and I’ll sing and just picture that I am standing on the stage.” This is a trick he learned during his time on the “Stars of the Future” reality show.

Maclean further stated that he believes in preparation and so should other singers, because “there’re moments when God brings us to the place of manifestation, sometimes you might not know. So what if I had not been preparing before then?”

He revealed that after singing his verse, he was overwhelmed with emotions and “actually broke down in tears” backstage.
