Mahama’s “do or die” comment is an idiomatic expression, says Inusah Fuseini

Inusah Fuseini has said that the NDC flagbearer hopeful’s comments must not be seen as treasonable

The former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has said that former President John Mahama’s ‘Do or Die’ comment made in the past constitutes an idiomatic expression.

Speaking on The Big Bulletin with Beatrice Adu, Inusah said, “All die be die and Boot for Boot are idiomatic expressions. In Ghana aren’t they idiomatic expressions?”

“Go and check Webster’s dictionary or Advanced Learners dictionary. The point I’m simply making is that we as a country are better than this. We have invested so much in our democracy; we will not let anybody derail the democracy because we are enjoying the freedom and liberty under the experiment.”

“How is it that an English idiomatic expression takes a different meaning in Ghana?” Insuah asked.

“Arrest Mahama”

The New Patriotic Party has petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to arrest, investigate, and prosecute John Dramani Mahama and the chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, for treasonable and offensive conduct.

“Nana B’s conduct is bringing the profession into disrepute, why will a lawyer act that way? Why will a lawyer write such a letter? If it’s a treasonable offense, you should petition the IGP…”

The former president has however explained that his ‘do or die’ comment is being twisted by his political opponents to make him appear guilty in the eyes of the Ghanaian populace.
