North East Region: Poultry farmer loses over a 1000 birds to flood

1,200 guinea keets, 250 plymouth rock birds, and two Saso fowls were among the birds lost in the flood, leaving just six turkeys and a few Saso birds on the farm

A poultry farmer, Mohammed Aziz, on Monday (24 July) lost about 1,452 birds on his poultry farm to flood in Walewale in the North East Region.

A visibly disturbed Aziz, who reportedly collapsed after the incident, said he needs about GHC25, 000 to revive his poultry business.

“There was a downpour,” Aziz told Asaase News. “We came to the farm and realised that almost everything including the birds have been taken away.”

“We are just looking for means to revive the business because everything has been taken away,” he said.

Aziz, who is a major supplier of guinea keets in the North East Region, is appealing to the government to come to his aid.

“I have 6,000 capacity incubators that hatch. So, every month, if I don’t hatch at all, I will be hatching about 4,000.

“Our appeal is that if the government doesn’t come in to help us, maybe that will be the end of our story. So, we are appealing to the government and well-meaning Ghanaians to help us to revive our business,” he added.
