NPP grass roots are calling for Bawumia, says O B Amoah

O B Amoah made the observation about the support for Dr Bawumia as he addressed NPP supporters and executives in Akwapim South on Monday (7 August)

The Member of Parliament for Akwapim South in the Eastern Region and Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, O B Amoah, has declared that the grass roots of the New Patriotic Party are the people calling for the election of the vice-president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the NPP’s flagbearer.

He made this observation as he addressed NPP delegates in his constituency on Monday (7 August 2023) during a stopover in Akwapim South by the vice-president on his campaign tour of the Eastern Region.

“You, the NPP grass roots, are sending those of us who are part of the super delegates to Koforidua to choose the five candidates who will contest in the primaries in November 2023 and ultimately to elect the one who will be our presidential candidate,” O B Amoah said.

“When I take a look at the energy, the excitement and the enthusiasm you are displaying here, it is clear that you, the NPP grass roots, are sending those of us who are part of the super delegates to select the vice-president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. That is the clear message you have given to us,” he said.

Mandate of grass roots

The Akwapim South MP pointed out that the super delegates of the NPP, who are roughly 961 in number, will carry out the mandate they have been given by the party rank and file and vote for their candidate of choice on 26 August.

“We will not disappoint you, and come 26 August, it will not be just the Akwapim South constituency alone that would have elected Dr Bawumia – the whole Ghana would have elected him,” Amoah said.

“If you look at the vice-president’s constituency-to-constituency, region-to-region campaign, every one of the people he is interacting with has endorsed him. And here in the East Region, we will ensure that we add up to the long list of endorsements,” the MP said.

Special qualities

Sharing his thoughts on his own experience of working with Dr Bawumia, what he thinks of him and the qualities he believes he possesses, O B Amoah argued that the vice-president is a strong character who is capable of being the standard-bearer for the NPP after President Akufo-Addo.

“Dr Bawumia is a calm person, he is a positive-minded person, he has a strong level of emotional intelligence, he does not get angry, he is a very good listener, he is articulate, he is an advocate of the NPP and he is highly competent,” Amoah told his constituents.

“If you take out the current president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, there is no one in the party as experienced as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” the MP said.

Campaign tour

Since he announced his decision to run for the presidential candidate slot of the NPP, Vice-President Bawumia has been on a tour of Ghana to meet NPP delegates in all 275 constituencies in the country.

His campaign so far has taken him to all 34 constituencies in the Greater Accra Region and all 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region. He has also visited all 17 constituencies in the Western Region as well as the 23 in the Central Region.

Dr Bawumia is currently touring the 33 constituencies in the Eastern Region. After this leg of his national tour, he will have completed visits to 154 out of the 275 constituencies in the country.
