NPP parliamentary primary: voting under way in Ejisu

Roughly 1,080 delegates are expected to cast their vote today to elect a new parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Ejisu by-election, triggered by the death of John Kumah

Voting is ongoing to elect a new Member of Parliament for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the key constituency of Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

It is anticipated that 1,081 delegates will cast their vote today to elect a new parliamentary candidate for the NPP in a by-electionĀ which was triggered by the death of John Ampontuah Kumah.

Dr Kumah, aged 45, who had served as the MP for the area since 2021, succumbed to a brief illness on 7 March 2024, leaving behind a wife and six children.

All nine individuals aspiring to stand in the NPP parliamentary primary for Ejisu have been given the green light by the partyā€™s vetting committee.

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the All Peopleā€™s Congress (APC) have announced that they will not be presenting candidates for the actual by-election, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 30 April.
