Ralph Poku-Adusei cleared to contest Bekwai NPP primary

The committee also cleared three other NPP aspirants for the Bekwai slot – Kingsley Opoku Agyemang, COP George Alex Mensah (rtd) and Henry Opoku Ware

Ralph Poku-Adusei, a lawyer in private practice and the managing partner at Trent Amansie chambers in Accra, has been cleared by the parliamentary primaries vetting committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to run in its 27 January 2024 primaries.

This came to light shortly after a meeting with one of the four vetting committees in the Ashanti Region, chaired by Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP’s national organiser.

The other officers on the committee were Iddi Muhaya-Deen and Richmond Amponsah Agyabeng.

The committee also cleared the three other aspirants for Bekwai – Kingsley Opoku Agyemang, COP George Alex Mensah (rtd) and Henry Opoku Ware – to stand in the constituency primaries as well.

After vetting, the contestants balloted for spots on the ballot paper.

Ralph Poku-Adusei picked the second spot on the ballot. COP George Alex Mensah (rtd) picked the first position, Kingsley Opoku Agyemang picked the third and Henry Opoku Ware settled in the fourth spot on the ballot.

Potential winner

Out of the four aspirants, Ralph Poku-Adusei, a lawyer in private practice, is said to be in pole position to win the primaries before the 7 December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Poku-Adusei has declared that he will win 90% of the total votes that will be cast in the NPP parliamentary primary for Bekwai on 27 January 2024.

He is reported to have said that he is confident of securing the massive endorsement of the 985 delegates expected to elect a parliamentary candidate for Bekwai in the run-up to the 7 December general election.

This, he says, is because of the strong relationship he has built with NPP delegates in the constituency over the years.

The incumbent MP for Bekwai, who is also the first deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu (Joe Wise), is no longer standing after serving four terms as the local member of Parliament.
