Koku Anyidoho, a former deputy general secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the national chairman of the party is up to something with his recent decision to reshuffle the Minority leadership in Parliament.
Anyidoho said the way in which the NDC went about the reshuffle is unprecedented and this has generated widespread disagreement among the party rank and file.
Speaking on The Big Bulletin on Asaase 99.5 on Wednesday (25 January), Anyidoho said, “We have changed leaders in the party since 1992 and nothing of this nature has happened [before]. It is about the process … what was the rush?
“So, you want to effect changes and you cannot invite the leadership of the party in Parliament and tell them what you were going to do, and they had to just hear it on air? And that is not insulting?”
Anyidoho added: “Parliament is in recess, they are supposed to be coming back on 6 February, what is this real urgency in doing this thing before Parliament convenes?
“I am not insinuating. I am saying it for a fact; he is up to something. I’ve made this point long before voting and my position has not changed: that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is on a certain trajectory.
“I was his deputy for four years; I know whom I’m talking about.
“The person who has created the problem should go and solve it …” Anyidoho said.
Cassiel Ato Forson, the NDC MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, has replaced Haruna Iddrisu as the Minority Leader in Parliament, steering the 136-strong NDC group of MPs.
A statement issued by the NDC on Tuesday (24 January 2023) to announce the reshuffle said the MP for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, will now act as the deputy Minority leader.
Governs Kwame Agbodza has been appointed as the Minority Whip, with Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyoe Ghansah designated as the first and second deputy whips.
