George Weah eyes first round victory in Liberia polls

The launch brought the whole of Monrovia to a standstill with major shops closed

The President of Liberia, George Manneh Oppong Weah, is eyeing a first-round victory in the upcoming 10 October 2023, presidential and legislative elections as his party Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) officially launched its campaign last Thursday (7 September 2023).

The launch brought the whole of Monrovia to a standstill with major shops closed.

Supporters of the CDC both young and old defied the rains to grace the occasion at the 15,000-capacity Anthony Tubman Stadium.

The massive crowd that turned up kept cheering President Weah on and he responded by chanting battle cry in his blue outfit accompanied by party officials, ministers in his government and the vice-president Jewel Cianeh Taylor.

Weah’s main contender is Unity Party flagbearer and former vice-president of Liberia Joseph Boakai.
