Team Samira wins NPP’s Greater Accra Loyal Ladies’ soccer fiesta

The aim of the game was to mobilise and bring together women in the party to 'break the 8' in the 2024 election

Team Samira Bawumia on Saturday won the ultimate at the Greater Accra regional chapter of the NPP’s loyal ladies soccer fiesta after beating Team Pomaah in a penalty shootout.

They won by 5-4 after the shoot out to lift the trophy.

The aim of the game was to mobilise and bring together women in the party to ‘break the 8’ in the 2024 election.

The football gala was held at the Achimota AstroTurf in Accra.

More than 500 NPP ladies from the various constituencies in the Greater Accra Region took part in different sporting disciplines including football, dancing, lime and spoon competition among others.

Team Pomaah and Team Martha all representing known women figures in the party took the second and third positions respectively.

Other teams which participated in the competition were Team Rebecca, representing the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo Addo and team Frema (the chief of staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare). The winning team was presented with a trophy, cash prize and others.

Captain for the Greater Accra Loyal ladies, Yayra Agbehia said the fun games form part of the party’s strategies to involve more women in the campaign for the 2024 general elections.

“This is to ginger us up for 2024. As young women we need to energise ourselves for the next general elections,” she said. “So we can fully participate in the task ahead.”

One of the newly appointed Deputy national youth organisers, Sandra Sarkodie Addo also used the occasion to encourage women in the party to forge a united front to help ‘break the 8’ by maintaining the party in power.

“We cannot downplay the role of women in the party’s development, therefore the need for us to actively be part of the campaign activities,” she told Asaase News.

The event which was organised by the regional leadership of the party’s loyal ladies was graced by some dignitaries including the CEO for the State Housing Company Limited, Nana Appiah Ampofo, the National Youth Organisers Salam Mustapha and his newly appointed deputies, Joe Hyde and Sandra Sarkodia Addo, Greater Accra regional Youth Organiser, Moses Abor , the administrator of GETFUND Richard Boadu and others.
