NHIA boss: Government supports dialysis treatment with GHC2 million

Parliament in March 2024 approved GHC6.87 billion for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS) to cover health insurance claims and other activities for the year

Kidney patients in the country can now breathe some sigh of relief following moves by the government to subsidise their cost of treatment at some government health facilities.

Parliament in March approved GHC6.87 billion for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS) to cover health insurance claims and other activities for the year.

This approval included, for the first time, emergency support for needy dialysis patients as part of the 2024 distribution formula.

About GHC2 million out of the amount has been allocated for the dialysis treatment of kidney patients in some public health facilities.

A philanthropist has complemented the government’s effort by offering to cater for 380 such patients in the country.

In an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (16 May), the chief executive officer of the NHIA, Dr Da Costa Aboagye says the patients are happy with the support.
