Reshuffle calls: Akufo-Addo knows when to take action, says Asabee

Asamoah Boateng, the former boss of SIGA, told Asaase 99.5 Accra on Tuesday (2 August) that mounting unnecessary pressure on the president to change his government could result in a poor decision

A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Asamoah Boateng, believes President Nana Akufo-Addo will reshuffle his ministers at the appropriate time, despite pressure on him to do so now.

Boateng, the former boss of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), told Asaase 99.5 Accra on Tuesday (2 August) that mounting unnecessary pressure on the president to change his government could result in a poor decision.

He said those making the calls must exercise restraint.

“I will ask that people calm down a bit,” Asabee, as he is affectionately called, said on The Asaase Breakfast Show with Kwaku Nhyira-Addo. “I have been in government before, I was very close to former President J A Kufuor during our time. Sometimes people come up with this reshuffle idea, we think about it, President Kufuor will consider and say this is not the time.”

“By our constitution, the president is an executive president, he has the prerogative, and we should give him the credit, that at the appropriate time he will act. I am not sure the president wants his government to collapse, that is not his job,” Boateng said.

He added: “His job is to pull us along and make sure the economy is managed properly and whoever he can find in the party or in Ghana to help him perform a function, he will.”
