Hundreds spend the night in a Kenyan traffic jam
People on social media shared photos of the gridlock, with people complaining of leaving their offices at 18:00 on Thursday but only getting home at 04:00 on Friday.
Hundreds of commuters spent more than eight hours overnight stuck in a traffic jam on a 26km (16-mile) stretch of highway that is being revamped in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
The road that links the capital to the main airport is being expanded by a Chinese contractor.
The workers have closed sections of the road and dug side trenches to prevent motorists from using sections that are still under construction.

One person tweeted: “There were people with babies, tourists have missed flights.”

This is not the first time motorists have experienced traffic on the road that also connects Nairobi to the coastal city of Mombasa – but Thursday night’s jam seems to be the worst many have experienced.
Transport Minister James Macharia is on record as saying the inconvenience is “only short-term”.
