NPP flagbearer race: Only losing candidates are running down the party, says Aboagye

At least 955 delegates are expected to vote in the internal polls in all 16 regional capitals, with an additional voting centre at the NPP headquarters in Accra

The director of local government services at the Office of the President, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has chastised flagbearer aspirants, who are engaging in smear campaigns ahead of the party’s special electoral college elections on Saturday.

At least 955 delegates are expected to vote in the internal polls in all 16 regional capitals, with an additional voting centre at the NPP headquarters in Accra to pick the top five presidential candidates in the first round of votes.

This includes representatives from various party entities, including the national council, national executive committee (NEC), all regional executive committees, all members of the national council of elders, MPs, three representatives of each of the special organs of the party, past national officers, three representatives each from every external branch (27 branches in all), founder members during the registration of the party at the Electoral Commission.

Some candidates have been accused of mudslinging in their bid to market themselves to the delegates.

However, speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (25 August), Aboagye, who is a member of the Bawumia campaign team, said: “For us we are clear we are winning.”

“Those who don’t believe we will win are the ones running down the party,” Aboagye added.
