University of Ghana honours award-winning Ghanaian journalist Emmanuel Dogbevi

Award-winning Ghanaian journalist Emmanuel K Dogbevi is to be honoured by his alma mater, the University of Ghana for his “accomplishments” over the years.

“Congratulations on the significant contribution made to the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) report on Africa-China relations,” a congratulatory letter addressed to the managing editor of Ghana Business News and signed by the Vice-chancellor Prof Nana Aba Ampiah Amfo said.

“We are excited about how far you have come and would want you to know that the entire university community is proud of your accomplishments,” the letter dated Wednesday 27 July 2022 said.

Dogbevi, the first Ghanaian and 7th journalist from Africa to be awarded a Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in the 2013-2014 academic year, will be honoured alongside 74 other alumni of the University of Ghana.

“In a few weeks, the university’s 75th anniversary celebrations will be launched. As part of the activities to mark the celebrations, the University’s office of Institutional Advancement in partnership with the Public Affairs Director will be showcasing the 75 notable UG’s alumni, and we would very much like for you to be part of this.

“Congratulations once again and we wish you the very best in your new role,” the letter said.

Passionate about environmental issues, Dogbevi has worked as editor, photographer, graphic designer, and consultant for organisations including, Friends of the Earth-Ghana, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the African Development Bank, West Africa Civil Society Institute, West Africa Media Foundation, the International Republican Institute and the World Bank.

He has written extensively about e-waste dumping in Ghana, land grab and bio-fuel issues, ICT, education, health, politics, finance, business, tourism and development.

In 2014, he founded the journalism and communication skills training not-for-profit organisation, NewsBridge Africa. Since March 2016 they have trained some 259 persons in Ghana, Liberia and The Gambia. They include journalists, executives and communication officers of CSOs, citizen journalists and Members of Parliament of The Gambia.

NewsBridge Africa worked with organisations like the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), ACIPP West Africa, the World Bank, the International Republican Institute (IRI) on some of the training programmes.
